From Grexit to Brexit discussions: Is the European Union so last century? Is Europeanism just Internationalism that failed - or the first step to overcome war and live peacefully ever after? Was it, after all, a non-democratic Dystopia? Time to unravel how it all came about. This Master Seminar will discuss European integration by looking at a range of agents who contributed to construct the Europe we know. This seminar does not aim at an exhaustive overview of European’s history; neither does it provide an introduction into European studies. Sessions will focus on different groups of European agents and their collaborations beyond the conventional narrative of European political integration, such as lawyers, veterans, women’s rights activists, colonists, etc. The seminar’s aim is to avoid typical pitfalls of some of the traditional historiography of Europe (teleological, nation-centric, West/ East divide) and develop a European perspective on European history.
The seminar will be held in English. Knowledge of further European languages is appreciated.
