Segregation in the broad sense, understood not only in terms of racial and ethnic migration as related to migration processes, but also as the historical configuration of various social and spatial spheres within the city, is the main theme of this block seminar. This class, taught in English, is part of the of DAAD exchange-program for students working on urban topics between the Humboldt University Berlin, Stadt- und Regionalsoziologie, and the CUNY Graduate Center, in order to stimulate intellectual exchange between scholars across the Atlantic and stimulate comparative research on themes of integration, segregation and inequality in the city. German students and CUNY students will participate in a summer school program tailored to enhance their knowledge of and experience with studying segregation, integration and inequality in urban settings through a comparative lens.
