Kommentar

Many in anthropology argue that we are in the midst of an ontological turn. The end of the representational paradigm in ethnography is being taken a step further to emphasise the performativity of (social) scientific method. The world kicks back against simple constructivism and at the same time anthropologist participate in making multiple worlds.
That is all very confusing. This seminar wants to raise a couple of simple questions:
What is meant by ontology when used by protagonists within recent debates around ontological politics?
What sort of ethnographic research do people do when they base their work on this or that notion of ontology.
The seminar will tackle the recent debate in the anthropological and STS literature , identify positions (hopefully), trace their Um- and Hinterland and read a few recent ethnographies that have tried to make the ontological turn productive for their research.
The seminar will take place in English if there is at least one non-German speaker in the room. The literature is all in English in any case.
