Being able to write a good essay is a key skill to master if you want to succeed at university. This course aims to provide students with a variety of basic skills with regard to academic writing and to develop the participants' awareness of essential features of composition. Working on selected language aspects and making effective use of monolingual dictionaries will help course members to avoid the pitfalls of mother-tongue interference, in turn helping to improve lexical and stylistic accuracy. In addition to writing essays, students will also practice other aspects of writing such as summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting, comparing and contrasting.
