Description (deutsche Beschreibung entfällt, weil das Seminar nur auf Englisch angeboten wird und um Missverständnissen vorzubeugen wie sie im SS 2015 bestanden):
This course aims at having students become versed in ethnographic research and cutting edge literature on translocal mobility: that is, the ways in which people, goods, and ideas transgress various geographic, economic, social and cultural boundaries while they move between local sites and thereby (re)shape the experiences of both those who move and those who stay put in various respects. For example, this concerns such key dimensions as notions of belonging, manners of socializing, and practices of spirituality.
The idea of the course is to have students of the University of Amsterdam and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin directly share into these experiences of mobility and stasis by taking classes and conducting their fieldwork (in-)between these two cities, on one or more dimensions of such translocal matters.
This course is a cooperation of the research projects: “Moving Matters” (http://aissr.uva.nl/research/programme-groups/content/moving-matters/moving-matters.html) and “Translocal Goods” (https://www.iaaw.hu-berlin.de/de/islam/translocalgoods)
