Portfolio-Exam: Course participants have to complete two assignments in order to show their learning progress.
1st assignment: learn and understand the valuation of risky cash flows received by investors in the private sector (with a focus on stockholders), the valuation of cash flows that measure benefits and costs of activities affecting the general public, investment criteria, the instruments used in stock investing, the economics of risk premia, basic strategies for managing stock portfolios and the implementation of the strategies in terms of algorithms. The students will demonstrate their progress by answering the questions of a multiple-choice exam.
2nd assignment: explore and apply some of the processes that investors and financial information providers use to analyze the ownership and governance structures of major corporations, and their “footprints” in matters of general concern. Students will apply a process of this sort in order to prepare presentation materials (“slides” for a talk) suitable for arguing for a down- or up-grade of specific firms (one firm per team) while comparing the firm to peer firms.
The final grade will be given for the portfolio of the two assignments.
