This course is intended as an introduction to Chinese philosophy, offering an overview of its main schools (Confucianism, Daoism, Mohism) and exploring some of its main themes. We will focus on the ancient Chinese period, but we will also consider some of the philosophical questions raised by the special nature of the Chinese language. One of our aims will be to demonstrate the relevance of an understanding of Chinese philosophy and language to contemporary Western philosophy. The lectures will be in English, but questions can be asked in German.
