How do queer diasporic writers write about writing? In this seminar, we will read and discuss texts by writers such as Gloria Anzaldúa, Ocean Vuong, Dionne Brand and others who grapple with the meaning and practice of writing itself. We will look at writing as a means of making sense of the world and making a difference in it. What can we learn from the reflections on writing about the complexities of language, autobiography and diaspora, about communication across contexts and generations? What understandings of queer aesthetics and diasporic writing do the authors develop? How is their writing shaped by the spaces they inhabit, the experiences of non-conformity and a queer desire for radical politics?
