The globalization of religion, economy and knowledge in the 21st century has made a decisive contribution to reshaping processes of transregional connectivity and entanglement that contribute to the pluralization of Muslim identity and a diversification of Muslim (life-)worlds. Against this background, the research-based seminar focuses on the role of Muslim women from Asia, Africa and Europe and examines how they, as economic, moral, pious, cultural and mobile actors, creatively shape areas such as global economy, capitalism, social activism and thus give new impetus to the production of religious knowledge and authority. Drawing on case studies from the field of Muslim pilgrimage, knowledge travel, entrepreneurship, business and civic activism, the seminar explores dynamic configurations of gender, religion, knowledge, and work, as well as it traces these configurations’ embeddedness in historical and current contexts of cultural and economic globalisation, normative social and religious orders, migration and transregional mobility. The seminar’s major focus is on the development, implementation and presentation of a research-based study project.
