The course introduces students to the progaming language R. No prior knowledge of R is required, but students should have taken sufficient classes in statistics / quantitative methods. We begin by going over basic logistics (downloading R, saving scripts) and then lay out the syntax of R (including tidyverse) in more detail. Each week, we will then learn how to implement a pertinent statistical method in R such as cross-sectional models, panel models, IV models, matching as well as a variety of spatial approaches. The course is hands-on such that students need to bring a laptop with a functioning internet connection. Toward the end, students will have to implement a replication/extension exercise of a paper of their choice.
