The aim of this lecture and workshop is to give an introduction to International Sales Law, particularly the CISG, as well as to International Arbitration from the insight view of a commercial law and arbitration practitioner. The language of this lecture will be English. It can also serve as a preparation for students interested in a participation in the Willem C. Vis Moot Court in Hong Kong and Vienna. As far as International Sales Law is concerned, the lecture will give an overview over different instruments in focus on the CISG’s implications for duties and rights of the buyer and the seller of goods as well as for possible remedies. The arbitration part of the lecture will provide for an overview of the arbitral proceedings, their origin in the implementation of an arbitration agreement up to the enforcement of the arbitral award. Students can use this class as a stepping stone not only to the world of international transactions and dispute resolution, but also to their involvement in the Vis Moot Court where Humboldt-Universität regularly competes in the field of International Commercial Arbitration in Hong Kong and Vienna together with more than 300 other universities from around the globe.
