Abstract: Tropical geometry is an exciting young subject that has deep connections to many branches of pure and applied mathematics. It can be thought of as a piecewise linear version of algebraic geometry, employing the study of algebraic varieties by methods of discrete geometry. In this seminar we will develop the basic building blocks and tools of tropical geometry and study some interesting examples. If time permits, we finish with an outlook on some "real life" applications.
Please note: Due to the corona pandemic the seminar might be run as a block seminar at the end of the summer term or will be canceled all together. Students interested in participating should contact me via e-mail. |
