Students learn how to use experimental economics to identify causal effects of HRM practices on employee behaviour in companies. They can evaluate field and laboratory experiments as well as other empirical studies that analyze economic behaviour in organizations. They will be able to conduct a scientific discourse, identify core statements of the economic studies, identify the econometric methods and interpret the results.
The lecture contents deal with the empirical evaluation of management practices in organizations. A brief introduction provides an overview of the fundamentals of experimental economic research (e.g. lab and field experiments). Subsequently, empirical studies on the effects of personnel instruments on employee behavior will be discussed. The topics are e.g. monetary and non-monetary incentives, leadership, teamwork, feedback, recruitment, training. The aim oft he exercise is to deepen the contents discussed in the lecture.
Preconditions: Moduls „Grundlagen der Personalökonomik” and „Strategie, Organisation und Information Technologie” or similar courses that impart in-depth knowledge about personnel and organisational economics. In addition, it is recommended to attend the module "Empirische Wirtschaftsforschung: Angewandte Kausalanalyse" or comparable courses about statistical methods and causal analysis. The course is aimed at students in advanced semesters.
