Working men, working women: Global histories of gender and labour - Detailseite

The goal of this course is to introduce students to global histories of gender and work. Theoretical and methodological approaches will be discussed alongside empirical case-studies from various regions across the globe. The course will specifically focus on the following aspects:
theoretical reflections on gender and work; gendered division of labour; labour and masculinities; gender and labour rights (protection vs.
equality); working women and the International Labour Organization; Care Work and gendered and sexualized body work; gender, labour and migration.

Students who are considering working in this field for their final thesis are encouraged to contact me in advance and make suggestions for topics and/or readings. Every participant can make suggestions for readings and topics. Please send them to me in advance or present your suggestion during the first session: sonja.dolinsek.1 [at] hu-berlin.de

NOTE: Due to the compressed nature of this course, students are required to prepare readings from the very first session (June 6th). A syllabus will be made available by mid-April.
