This seminar aims to have a look at historically-relevant as well as modern-day UK and Irish topics, delving into issues of culture, politics, society, sport and the media. Our time span will cover the Troubles all the way to Brexit. During the first sessions we’ll have look back at the shared history of the British Isles in order to better understand modern-day Britain and Ireland. Similarities as well as differences between the two “British Isles” will be discussed and worked on. The Commonwealth will also be focused on. Be prepared to actively participate in class and to give oral presentations as well as handing in written work, receiving feedback from both the instructor and your peers. This will be an online course.
