This course examines how gender shapes women's, men's, and LGBTIQ identities in people's daily lives. Drawing on materials from the North and the South it examines the impact of gender in framing people's lives as part of the politics of power in western, colonial and postcolonial worlds. It explores the plurality of law and role of legal pluralism in constituting persons through social relations ranging from intimate, interpersonal domains, to broader political and economic configurations linked to global processes e.g., work, education, and political engagement. |
