The course explores the theoretical foundations and key regulatory experiences in digital platforms regulation, with focus on Europe and Germany. The first part of the course will cover interdisciplinary literature that enlightens the role of such companies in contemporary democracies, with focus on their economic, political, cultural and communicational manifestations of structural power. The second half will dive into selected regulatory experiences in relation to key concepts in the field, like content moderation, liability, datafication, and automated decision making.
