This course has several interlinking goals. First, to read full ethnographies. This term we have two short books (1) Ruderal City: Ecologies of Migration, Race, and Urban Nature in Berlin (2022) by Bettina Stoetzer, and (2) Encoding Race, Encoding Class: Indian IT Workers in Berlin (2016) by Sareeta Amrute. Students will be expected to read the books in full. A second goal is to do an ethnographically grounded research project in contemporary Berlin. And a third, to knit that research – in writing – into a strong data driven argument. Attention will thus be paid to anthropological research methods, ethnographic writing as a scholarly genre, and to the city as lively, deeply historical place. Thematically the class will be good for students interested in multispecies ethnography (plants) and race & migration. The language of instruction will be English; Written work can be done in English, German, or French.
Alle in Studienordnung vorgesehenen Prüfungsformate werden angeboten.
Prüfungen werden in beiden Prüfungszeiträumen abgenommen.
