In this lecture, we explore the foundations of Jewish law, tracing the process from hermeneutic principles to the derivation of legal concepts and their practical applications. Case studies will include tort law, arbitration procedures, powers of attorney, property disputes, and challenges posed by legal pluralism. We also examine the relationship between ethics and law and analyze a contemporary case in which advances in modern science create areas of tension with Jewish ritual law. No prior knowledge required. The lecture is in English; may be credited toward the foreign language requirement where applicable.
