Inhalt
Kommentar	This course provides an in-depth introduction to the conventions and practices of academic writing with a focus on literary and cultural studies. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises, students will learn to develop strong thesis statements, structure effective paragraphs, and improve the overall organization of their writing. A central component of the course is learning how to make one’s writing more academic and discipline-appropriate, paying particular attention to accurate referencing and citation practices, as well as a formal tone. Students will engage in close analysis of a student paper to identify its strengths and weaknesses in terms of structure, argument, and style. Additionally, the course provides targeted language support focusing on common challenges, such as editing for clarity, punctuation, and avoiding “Denglish”—the inappropriate transfer of German structures and expressions into English academic prose.
