Kommentar	Location: "Berliner Institut für Migrationsforschung (BIM)" – Mohrenstraße 40-41, 10117 Berlin, seminar room 5th floor. Topics: Global migration governance; regional free‑movement blocs (MERCOSUR, ECOWAS); policy liberalisation cases; policy restriction cases; economic impact analysis methods By the end of the course, students will be able to identify and map the principal actors and institutional architectures that shape global migration governance, including UN bodies such as UNHCR and IOM as well as regional organizations like the EU, MERCOSUR and ECOWAS. They will explain and contrast the dominant theories of border regimes, ranging from restrictive models to free-movement paradigms, and analyze the political-economic forces that steer states toward each stance. They will compare and contextualize policy transitions in which countries shift from closed to open or from open to closed migration regimes across diverse political economies. Students will evaluate the economic consequences of migration policies by reading and discussing quantitative, empirical evidence and cutting-edge causal-inference methods.
