This seminar explores cutting-edge empirical research on social inequality, examining topics such as wealth disparities, the evolving relevance of social class, trends in intergenerational social mobility, enduring gender inequality in labor markets, and the role of firms in producing inequality. Students will critically engage with recent scholarly articles selected by the instructor and are encouraged to contribute relevant works for class discussion. A central focus will be on how these recent empirical advances contribute to theoretical debates in sociology. The course also addresses methodological challenges in studying contemporary social inequality to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities and innovations in this field. A solid understanding of quantitative research methods is essential for the successful completion of the course. The seminar will be conducted in English.
