Understanding how social phenomena unfold over time is an important avenue for research on social inequality. Unlike other longitudinal methods that focus on metric outcomes, Social Sequence Analysis is concerned with examining categorial outcomes over time, such as family formation or school-to-work transitions.
This course provides a hands-on introduction to Social Sequence Analysis. Key topics include:
By the end of the course, students will gain practical experience with sequence analysis software and develop the skills to apply these methods in their own research. The analyses will be demonstrated with hands-on examples using R (TraMineR and further packages). No prior knowledge of R is required.
