Mechanisms underlying real economic integration, including growth convergence, trade, factor mobility and fiscal transfers. Theoretical and policy dimensions of the economic integration of Europe; recent history of European monetary and financial integration, and the rationale for European Monetary Union; the theory of optimal currency areas; the European Central Bank, fiscal and monetary policy in a currency union; the impact of banking and sovereign debt crises on the financial stability of the Eurozone. This course (lecture and repetition) will be given in English.
Upon successful completion of the course, it is possible to write a bachelor thesis on topics related to European integration. Potential topics will be announced and assigned during the semester; bachelor theses are due in the period following the first exam date.
