This Q-Kolleg targets teacher training students (future geography teachers) enrolled in
Berlin, Szeged (Hungary), and Las Palmas (Spain). Within the broad framework of research
in comparative Geography Education, it aims at equipping students with skills to carry out
empirical research. In addition, it requires students to create educational media based on
their empirical results to improve the teaching and learning of Geography directly. Thereby,
students will work in international teams on the following research questions:
(1) What are the central concepts taught within the topic of Europe?
(2) How does school Geography address the concepts of European borders, states, and regions?
(3) What geographical and general skills and competencies are required to be developed when
teaching the topic of Europe?
(4) What is the role of different stakeholders, such as students, teachers, textbooks and
educational media, assessment and examination, school organization, geographic location of
the school, dominant social and political discourse, educational reform, curricular freedom
involved in Geography Education?
(5) What are the similarities and differences concerning the content and the teaching of Europe
in the three case study regions (Berlin, Hungary, Canary Islands)? |
