This course will focus on human adaptation to climate change. The aim is to provide students with a theoretical grounding in the concept as well as how we might develop and assess adaptation strategies in real world situations. The course will also provide insight into how adaptation strategies might be applied in different sectors such as agriculture, forestry, nature conservation or coastal infrastructures and how they interact with climate change mitigation efforts. Examples from both the Global North and South will be used. In so doing, the students will obtain knowledge of various challenges and opportunities related to adaptation to climate change such as poverty, consumer preferences, habits and policy making as well as a clear understanding of the trade-offs associated with choosing adaptation measures. The students will be asked to develop an adaptation strategy for a particular region in the world. This strategy is to be handed in as a report either individually or in a group. |
