Referring to the concept of the four eternal epic cycles proposed by Borges, we will consider how the travel experience is described by Eastern European poets and writers. A journey as discovery, return, escape, and emigration - a fictional and real journey. We will compare different images and descriptions of places. Is the description of the journey a work of memory or imagination? Is it possible to go on a journey into your childhood? Can the same places be described by diametrically different means and subjected to different assessments? Is it possible to set off on a journey through your apartment? What is the ultimate end of the journey? We will create a map of mythical places and illustrate it with the context of other types of art (for example, painting, music, or film). We will consider how different forms the journey in poetry and prose itself takes: is it connected with moving in space or in time? Travellers will include Debora Vogel, Bruno Schulz, Anna Świrszczyńska, Witold Gombrowicz, Zbigniew Herbert, Wisława Szymborska, Czesław Miłosz, Adam Zagajewski, Josif Brodski, Yuri Andruchowycz etc.
