Empirical methods are important tools for doing research on religion. Qualitative and quantitative methods in the study of religious communities will be discussed in the course and will be applied by the students. The course will cover the different stages of empirical research, ranging from the data collection processes to the analysis of the material. Moreover, the course will deal with the communication of empirical research in the study of religious communities. Knowledge about the empirical methods will be complemented by a critical reflection of the history and development of ethnographic "field work" and the ethnographer's role.
The course will be taught in English. |
