Analytische Philosophie ist heute die dominante philosophische Tradition. Die Vorlesung wird kritisch und historisch in einige ihrer Hauptideen und Methoden einführen. Wir werden die Schriften von u. a. Frege, Russell, Moore, Wittgenstein, Stebbing, Carnap, Quine, Kripke, Austin, Ryle, Anscombe, Strawson and Grice diskutieren. Die Vorlesung wird die wichtigsten Themen behandeln – z. B. die Methode der Analyse, das Wesen der Logik, die Grundlagen der Arithmetik, die Theorie der Kennzeichnungen, Sinn und Bedeutung, den sogenannte ‘linguistic turn’, die Kritik der Metaphysik, den Unterschied zwischen analytischen und synthetischen Sätze, das Befolgen einer Regel, ‘conversational implicature’, analytischen Feminismus, sowie die Beziehungen zwischen analytischer Philosophie und anderen philosophischen Traditionen.
Die Vorlesung wird teilweise auf Deutsch (z.B. über Frege), teilweise auf Englisch (z.B. über Russell) gehalten werden. Fragen sind sowohl auf Deutsch als auch auf Englisch willkommen. Die Vorlesung wird von Tutorien (einige auf Deutsch, einige auf Englisch) begleitet, in denen Texte, die für die Vorlesung eine Rolle spielen, besprochen und in der Vorlesung aufgeworfene Fragen vertiefend diskutiert werden können.
Analytic philosophy is now the dominant tradition in Western philosophy, and these lectures will critically introduce some of the main ideas and methods of the tradition as it developed historically. We will discuss the work of, among others, Frege, Russell, Moore, Wittgenstein, Stebbing, Ryle, Carnap, Quine, Kripke, Austin, Anscombe, Strawson, and Grice. Topics covered will include analysis, the nature of logic, the foundations of arithmetic, the theory of descriptions, sense and reference, the linguistic turn, the critique of metaphysics, the analytic/synthetic distinction, rule-following, conversational implicature, analytic feminism, and the relationships between analytic philosophy and certain other philosophical traditions.
The lectures will be partly in German (e.g. discussing Frege) and partly in English (e.g. discussing Russell), and questions will be welcome in either German or English. The lectures will be accompanied by tutorials (some in German, some in English), encouraging deeper engagement with the key texts and issues introduced in the lectures. |
